Re-defining Healthcare

Join a patient centred care innovation program

To date, over 25,000 patients have partnered with the Libin Institute to develop a new future in personalized cardiovascular care.

The PULSE Program is a collaborative initiative of the Cumming School of Medicine and Alberta Health Services (AHS) focussed on developing and implementing personalized care for patients across Alberta.

Together, we can discover new pathways to the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.

Features

What is PULSE ?

Patient empowerment

The PULSE program is a multi-hospital initiative designed to enable Albertans to contribute their own perspectives and experiences to their health data. This data to carefully linked your AHS health and diagnostic testing data to allow for the delivery of personalized decision support tools that are tailored to your unique healthcare needs.

Secure data integration

In partnership with AHS, PULSE maintains a secure and fully anonymized version of your health data that is contextualized to your perspectives and experiences. After a period of time, this data resource can be used to allow personalized care recommendations that are tailored to your health profile. You, the patient, remain in full control of your data at all times, and can stop participating in the program at any time.

Innovation

We believe that Alberta can lead in healthcare innovation.  By participating in the PULSE program you will become a partner in healthcare innovation, allowing researchers from across Alberta to discover new ways of managing disease through access to anonymized health data.

How PULSE works for you

Personalize your health data

How your health changes over time and how you respond to medical treatments is strongly influenced by who you are (e.g., your ancestry, health experiences, and life circumstances).

Personalized medicine aims to consider every patient's unique characteristics and health data (medical records and testing data) to predict what the best medical decisions might be. The first step in achieving this is building personalized data records.

PULSE was designed to allow patients to generate, maintain, and securely control a personalized health data model that can be used to test personalized medical decision tools.

Control your data

Participation in the PULSE program provides patients with full control over a standardized health data model that is constructed specifically for them. By linking relevant digital health data with patient self-reported markers of health, a unique resource is generated that is securely managed in partnership with AHS. This can then be used by researchers to discover better ways of treating unique patients using personalized medicine.
